I have never had a face book or twitter account, and I eschew cellular 'phones and i-pads. I'm a republican, and I am constantly using my brain. I have no time for the inane chatter of witless magpies or the laborious blustering of disinformed dullards. Thinking is a responsibility that requires discipline, and I avoid anything that distracts me from that responsibility.
Similarly, I have very little use for television. The best of it is programmed mental pabulum for the consumption of people who don't want to think. The worst of it is a government directed perception control dispensary for people who want to be told what to think.
And we seem to keep finding new and even more effective ways to curtail our cognition. We invented texting so high school students could communicate surreptitiously during class – and grow up never having learned how to construct a coherent English sentence! Texting is an atavistic regression from Alexander Graham Bell's world of ease and convenience to the labor intensive world of Samuel E. Morse. And it seems to have been designed to isolate us not only from our own minds but from our very surroundings. I know what you're thinking, and I freely admit it. I have never texted. But then neither have I ever walked off a subway platform or driven my car under the back end of a stopped semi trailer.
The technological dumbing down of America was not instigated by our government, but our government has freely capitalized on the phenomenon. The MSM (Managed State Media) is government controlled through brainwashing, bribery, blackmail, and – most recently – nepotism. President Obama hired Elizabeth Sherwood, the sister of ABC president Ben Sherwood, as a "special assistant." And the president of CBS, David Rhodes, is the brother of Ben Rhodes, one of Obama's "special advisors." As former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkison can attest – and has attested – CBS has come to stand for Cover-up Barack's $#!+. Of course, with such sycophants as Wolf Blither at Censored News Network and Chris Madthighs at Marxist-Socialist NBC, most of the MSM is a self operating propaganda machine. All Washington has to do is feed them the current party line.
The government has further capitalized on the technological revolution by mining our cell 'phone and internet communications to find out who might be exercising their First and Second Amendment rights. And they have certainly taken advantage of the fact that many Americans are walking around with their heads in a digital cloud of self-absorbed oblivion – unconscious of the atrocities being perpetrated on them under cover of their self-induced ignorance.
We cannot – nor do we want to – get rid of cell 'phones, TV, or the internet. But we must, as always, exercise our responsibility to use technology wisely, and we must control the government's misuse of these conveniences by attacking the cause of the problem – the government.
