On 6 May 2014 – fifteen and a half years later – Monica Lewinski "decides" to re-air the sordid details of her affair with Bill Clinton in a high-profile article in Vanity Fair, a magazine with 77% female readership.
Why? Why would Monica Lewinski, now 40 years old, presumably want to dredge up what she has previously described as an embarrassing and regrettable period in her life and display it for all to see in a magazine with a circulation of 1.2 million?
Eighteen years ago William Safire wrote in the New York Times: "Americans of all political persuasions are coming to the sad realization that our First Lady – a woman of undoubted talents who was a role model for many in her generation -- is a congenital liar."
What Mr. Safire failed to add in his 8 January 1996 column is that Hillary Clinton is also a congenital politician.
On Wednesday 11 September 2012, while Hillary Clinton was serving (allegedly) as Secretary of State, a CIA compound in Benghazi Libya underwent a nine hour extended military attack that left four Americans, including the American Ambassador to Libya, dead.
On Thursday 12 September 2012, one day after the attack and three days before Susan Rice want on five Sunday talk shows to promulgate the obvious lie that the Benghazi attack was the result of an obscure video that no one – including most of the Arab world – had ever heard of, Hillary Clinton issued a memo to her staff instructing them to promulgate that same lie.
On 1 May 2014, a year and a half after the fact, Speaker of the House John Boehner announced the formation of a House Select Committee to investigate the lies and obfuscation surrounding the Benghazi debacle.

Even if you are one of those low information people who are foolish enough to vote Democrat, you can't fail to see what's going on here. Hillary Clinton is a congenital politician and she is faced with a crisis that threatens to end her career. Harold Gowdy III is an accomplished and respected prosecutor, and Harold Gowdy III has been empowered by the House of Representatives of the United States to expose the incompetence and corruption that led to the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi in September 2012.
But Hillary Clinton is a congenital politician. She undoubtedly has had the Monica Lewinski card in her hip pocket for some time, waiting for the appropriate moment to elicit a smoke screen of feminine sympathy. How she induced Miss Lewinski to implicate herself in this charade I don't know, but I'm sure it was a carrot and stick approach, involving both reward for compliance and the threat of dire consequences for refusal.
And the threat of dire consequences coming from a woman who has left a trail of more than 80 dead bodies in the wake of her political career is not to be taken lightly.
I'm sure this is only the opening salvo in Hillary Clinton's fight for her political life. Expect more of the same and worse as the Gowdy investigation gets closer and closer to the truth.
