It pisses me off that I've been lying to my wife all these years.
Yeah, that was fifty years ago, and a lot of things have changed in fifty years. But some things never change – the responsibility to keep your word and the innate incompetence and corruption of governments.
Governments by their very nature attract scoundrels. Where else can you skim money off the populace while telling them you're working hard to ensure their best interests? And dishonesty is only the tip of the iceberg. Most politicians are charlatans who went into politics because they were too incompetent to make a living in the private sector. So governments are infestations of dishonesty and incompetence!
I guess what really pisses me off is that it's my own fault. I should have known it's as dumb to trust a government as it is to trust a Muslim. Neither one of them is morally capable of keeping their word or intellectually capable of knowing right from wrong. And both of them are characterized by grotesquely inflated egos, one supported by politics and the other by religion.
The only solution would seem to be to farm the Veterans' Administration out to private sector contractors, who are constrained from idiocy and corruption by competition and the profit motive.
One thing for damn sure: the solution to the VA mess is not, as Pretendent Obama has suggested, to throw more money at the problem. Our government – any government – is a raging, all consuming fire. And you don't put out a fire by throwing more fuel on it.
You starve it!
