Oh, I forgot to mention: Rosynose Lehmberg is a Democrat – and Travis County Texas is a Democrat county in the middle of a Republican State.
Governor Perry, understandably, asked that DA Lehmberg step down, particularly since one of her responsibilities as District Attorney is to investigate official malfeasance in Travis County. And since Travis County encompasses Austin, the seat of Texas Government, it would seem to be desirable that the person responsible for investigating allegations of political misconduct be themselves above reproach.
When the Governor vetoed funds for the investigative division of the Travis County DA’s Office, a coterie of Travis County Democrats convened a grand jury and indited Governor Perry on charges of misuse of power and coersion of a public servant. These charges are so ludicrous that even such liberal institutions as the New York Times and David Axlerod are shaking their heads.
As with most things Democrats do, this debacle is doomed to backfire. Governor Perry will be running for President in 2016. This is just the thing he needs to bring national attention to his integrity and determination – both admirable Reaganesque qualities.
Governor Perry is smiling in his mug shot because Texas Democrats have just done him a very great favor.
