Thus Mr. Banzhaf joins the ranks of the likes of Harry Reid in inciting national outrage over a non-crisis. The Redskins flap is a red herring. It's a ploy to distract the American people from what their government is doing or is about to do to them. The question that keeps gnawing at my mind is, "What horrible atrocities does the government plan to visit upon us that they need such a diversion?"
I am a graduate of North Side High School in Fort Wayne Indiana, proud home of the North Side Redskins. Fort Wayne was the first outpost of America in Indiana. Mad Anthony Wayne built Fort Wayne in 1794 – on the outskirts of Kekionga, the capital city of the Miami Nation.
We Hoosiers – and particularly we in Fort Wayne – have always been proud of the Indian influence in our roots and in our heritage. I am certainly not ashamed to be called a North Side Redskin. On the contrary, I consider it a badge of honor to be verbally associated with the noble and self-sufficient people who inhabited this land before us.
Let us salute them, the proud and valiant warriors who taught us so much about freedom and self-respect and the proper place of man in the universe.
How dare we denigrate them by suggesting that their name is "hate" speech?
