The above quote is from a radio message a week ago from Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, spokesman for the Muslim group that calls itself the Islamic State. The religion of peace made good its threat against Canada on Wednesday 22 October when a gunman killed Cpl .Nathan Cirillo, a soldier standing guard at the National War Memorial. Michael Josef Hall, aka Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, a recent convert to Islam, then crossed the road, entered the House of Commons, and opened fire, wounding two before he was shot to death by the sergeant-at-arms, Kevin Vickers.
Cpl Cirillo's service rifle was unloaded, as are the rifles of all the guards at the War Memorial, in deference to the anti-gun hysteria that has made Canada one of the most lightly armed countries in the world. All firearms in Canada must be registered and licensed with the government, and you have to have a very good reason for wanting to own one. In 2010, the Canadian government reported 1.8 million firearms licensees in Canada, which is only 5.4% of the country's population.
Stringent gun control laws, however, did not keep Michael Zehaf-Bibeau from getting a gun. All they did was render his victims defenseless.
We are in a continual war with the forces of evil, whether from outside our borders, as in the case of ISIS, or from within, as in the cases of criminals and our own governments. To deliberately put ourselves at a disadvantage in that war by voluntarily disarming ourselves is imbecilic and – in the final analysis – suicidal.
Canada is as enticing a target for ISIS as Sandy Hook Elementary School was for Adam Lanza.
