A doctor in Alabama prescribes more PSA tests and rectal prostate exams for his Black patients than for his White patients. Is he being racist?
A pizza shop in Chicago refuses to deliver pizzas to a Black neighborhood. are they being racist?
The fact is that sickle cell anemia is a disease almost exclusive to Blacks. While some Hispanics are affected, Whites are virtually immune to the disease. If you are interested in detecting and treating the disease then, you will concentrate your detection efforts on the segment of the population in which you know the disease occurs.
The fact is that Black males experience twice the incidence of prostate cancer as that experienced by White males. If a doctor has a non-racial interest in the well being of his patients then, he will screen his Black male patients for prostate cancer more closely than he does his White male patients.
The fact is that 80% of the murders in the United States and 85% of inter-racial crimes committed in the United States are perpetrated by Blacks. If a pizza shop is interested in the security of their employees then, they will avoid sending them into Black neighborhoods to deliver pizzas.
To imply that any of the above decisions are an exemplification of racism is as stupid as suggesting that a sheriff's decision to exclude females as suspects in a rape case is an exemplification of sexism. Some things are just obvious – at least to rational people.
I don't mean to imply that race-baiters like Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, and Jesse Jackson are irrational. On the contrary, they are quite rational. They're just dishonest.
There's an old maxim in politics that goes something like, "If you see someone doing the same thing over and over and not getting results, it's because you're not looking for the same results he is."
The self-appointed leaders of the black community employ attacks against alleged White racism as the major weapon in their alleged war to improve the conditions of the Black community. After over forty years of this strategy, it should be obvious to any disinterested observer that the strategy is not achieving its alleged objectives.
Black unemployment compared to White unemployment is still where it was in 1970 – roughly twice as high. The current rate is 115% higher, exactly where it was in 1972, although it has varied over those 42 years from 70% higher to 177% higher. Black poverty has been essentially flat for forty years, from 30% in 1970 to 27% in 2010. And the incarceration rate for Black men between the ages of 20 and 34 is 2.5 times higher today than it was in 1970.
If demonization of alleged White racism has had any effect at all on the well being of the Black community, it would appear that effect has been negative. Why then do Al Sharpton el al continue to pursue it? Could it possibly be that the result they are looking for is not improvement in the conditions of Black people?
Could it be that the result they have achieved – maintenance of the status quo in the Black community for forty years – is the result they were looking for?
