Proponents of the ATT dissemble that the treaty would have no effect on the domestic firearms regulations of any country. But the Institute for Legal Action (ILA), the lobbying arm of the National Rifle Association, had this to say about that: "Anti-gun treaty proponents continue to mislead the public, claiming the treaty would have no impact on American gun owners. That's a bald-faced lie. For example, the most recent draft treaty includes export/import controls that would require officials in an importing country to collect information on the 'end user' of a firearm, keep the information for 20 years, and provide the information to the country from which the gun was exported. ... That is gun registration."
So why is the United Nations, purportedly an organization dedicated to resolving international disputes and ensuring international civility, intent on injecting itself into the domestic affairs of its member nations?
Let's be clear. The United "Nations" is not a congress of nations. It is a congress of governments. And what is the goal of every government? Tyranny over its own people. And what single act contributes most to the inception, maintenance , and expansion of that tyranny? The taking away of the people's guns! As Adolph Hitler so succinctly put it in 1933, "To conquer a nation, first disarm its citizens."
This "UN treaty" is a concerted effort by the governments of the world to ensure their continued tyranny over their "subjects" by depriving the whole world of the means of combating that tyranny. Unfortunately for Americans, the executive branch of our own "government" has latched onto this incursion into basic human rights as a convenient means to ensure its own tyranny over its "subjects" – us!
Author and economist John R. Lott, who taught with Barry Soetoro (aka Barack Obama) at the University of Chicago in the 1990s, quotes the future president as saying, "I don't think anyone should be allowed to own a gun." In 1996, Obama supported a ban on handguns, and in 1998, as an Illinois Senator, he advocated banning all semi-automatic weapons – pistols, rifles, and shotguns. As Pogo said, "We have met the enemy and he is us."
Make no mistake. Obama is intent on disarming the citizens of the United States. And he will use any means to accomplish that. The ATT, to Obama, is but one lever in his endless pursuit of total government control over the United States of America.
In the days to come, Obama will be trying to drum up public support for the US Senate ratification of the ATT. He will, if his speech writer is true to form, call for a "national dialogue" on "international arms trade." My response to the President is this.
The "gun control" debate in America was settled in 1791, when the Second Amendment was ratified by the States! Any further "dialogue" on the subject would be pointless and a distraction from the formulation of positive actions that could actually have an effect on the problems in international weapons trade – like stopping the President of the United States from surreptitiously arming Islamic terrorists throughout the world!
We, as a nation of free men, must resist this attempt to extend the tyranny enabled by the UN into our own republic, if necessary by force of arms. Else our children and grandchildren can never enjoy the freedom that is available only to a coterie of armed republicans.
