In yesterdays' post, I quoted Miss Angela Pradhan of Ithaca College asserting that her initiative to quash free speech would “make Ithaca College a safer, more inclusive and diverse community for all students.”
I'm sure Miss Pradhan actually believes what she said, and that is perhaps the most tragic aspect of this gross tragedy. Miss Pradhan, like all her fellow students who voted for this travesty, have been taught to assess activities on the basis of intentions to the exclusion of results.
This indoctrination is deliberate. It is a refinement of the classic shell game. If you can keep the rube's eyes on the shells, he won't notice that you palmed the pea.
So-called "hate speech" is a dysphemism intended to restrict the free exchange of ideas in the name of Mom-and apple-pie concepts like "inclusion" and "diversity." If we can keep the rube's eyes on the empty shell of diversity, he won't notice that we palmed his right to free speech.
But let's examine how the constraint of free speech actually impacts diversity. When a group of atheists force a Christian community to remove the nativity scene from the courthouse lawn at Christmas, does that, as ostensibly intended, improve diversity? Are Christians not part of the rich tapestry of diversity? To proscribe their diverse expressions from the public domain would seem to diminish diversity rather than enhance it. To follow this suppression of diverse expression to its logical conclusion would result in an oatmeal pall of monotonous ennui. Surely, that is not the atheists' actual intention?
And when the queer coalition promotes sodomite marriage in the name of diversity, are they delusional or deliberately delusive? Surely they realize that the forced imposition of the public display of a perversion that 98% of the populace find reprehensible will promote divisiveness rather than diversion. Is that really what they want?
Clearly the most egregious perverters of common sense are the apologists, promoters, and purveyors of Islam. They are asking us to embrace in the name of diversity a quasi-religion that preaches and practices the decapitation, crucifixion, and cremation of people for the crime of diversity. And the mechanism they use is to mis-label this cult of horror as the "religion of peace."
All of these are examples of Orwellian "doublespeak," the masking of nefarious indent with pretty-sounding but meaningless words. Doubldespeak is rampant in the United States today. Racism is being promoted as "social justice." Terrorism is being masked as "workplace violence." And the theft of your free speech is being candy-coated with phrases like "Political Correctness" and being "mindful" of "offensiveness" to others.
Make no mistake. Those who push for "social justice" are intent on inciting racism, those who excuse terrorism as "workplace violence" are intent on promoting terrorism, and those who admonish "mindfulness" are intent on eradicating the free exchange of ideas required for you to be mindful.
Diversity, it turns out, is nothing more than a code word for diversion, division, and divestiture.
I should like to proffer a paraphrase of Friedman's 1975 comment: "One of the great mistakes is to judge policies and programs by their alleged intentions rather than their intended results."
