But the bill is designed not only to make it more difficult to transfer firearms, but to make it easier to disarm gun owners, since failure to comply with the impossible terms of the law can result in loss of Second Amendment "privileges" and consequent confiscation of all your guns
HB 941 passed the Oregon Senate Tuesday with a 17-13 blessing and is now headed for the House, where it's expected to have an even easier transit. And the new Democrat-and-openly-bisexual Governor of Oregon, Kate Brown, is sure to sign it. But there is someone who has the backs of the 4 million citizens of Oregon.
More than 20 of the 36 county sheriffs in Oregon have declared their refusal to enforce the law if it is passed and signed by the governor.
A similar situation pertains in Colorado, where 45 of the State's 62 sheriffs have refused to enforce Governor John Hickenlooper's 2013 un-Constitutional assault on the Second Amendment. That the sheriffs are in alignment with the will of the People is evidenced by the fact that the first recall elections in Colorado State history deposed three State Senators – Senate President John Morse, Senator Angela Giron, and Senator Evie Hudak – for their contributions to the passage of Hickenlooper's anti-gun law.
And in Maryland, Wicomico Country Sheriff Mike Lewis sent a clear message to Obama that, "I will not allow the federal government to come in here and strip citizens of their right to bear arms. If they attempt to do that, it will be an all-out civil war. No question about it."
And everyone is familiar with Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke who admonishes the citizens of Milwaukee County and greater Wisconsin to take responsibility for their own safety and wellbeing by arming themselves.
And America's Sheriff, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, said in a 2013 radio interview, “Now if they’re going to tell the sheriff that he’s going to go around picking up guns from everybody, they’re going to have a problem. ... I’m going to arm all my deputies with automatic weapons and semi-automatic weapons. We’re going to be able to fight back. … I don’t care what they say from Washington.”
And thousands of less famous but no less dedicated sheriffs in Texas, Kansas, Oregon, Missouri, California and other states across America have voiced their determination to hold the thin brown line against attempts at public disarmament by a totalitarian, tyrannical, and rightfully fearful-of-the-public federal government.
We applaud our sheriffs for their courage and we unreservedly support them in their efforts to protect and defend both the Constitution and the People of the United States. The thin brown line, the County Sheriff, is the last line of public defense against the socialist self-servants of the federal empire.
And the last line of personal defense is what these brave guardians of our rights are defending – our guns.
Update: The Oregonian reports that two separate recall petitions have been filed with the Oregon State Elections Office for the recall of SB 941 sponsor State Senator Chuck Riley (D-Hillsboro), Democrat House Minority Leader Val Hoyl (D-Eugene), and State Representative Susan McLain (D-Forest Grove) for their support of Oregon Senate Bill SB 941. Under Oregon law, the petitioners have up to 90 days to secure signatures representing 15% of the voters who voted in the general election to trigger a recall election 35 days following signature verification.
