The NICS is a thinly veiled attempt to build a national firearms owner’s list to facilitate confiscation. They have no interest in preventing the mentally ill acquiring firearms. In fact, they actively promote the sale of firearms to the mentally ill in hopes of precipitating another Sandy Hook massacre – and another opportunity for the Manufactured Situation Media (MSM) to ballyhoo it into a call for public disarmament.
Furthermore, it’s an open secret that the Obama mis-administration is currently using the NICS to steal the Constitutional rights of veterans and Social Security recipients by fallaciously labeling them “mentally disabled” if they are in any way physically disabled. Senator Cornyn is aiding and abetting this effort to swell the NICS with people who are being illegally deprived of their Second Amendment rights. One must hope that the Senator for Texas is assisting in this nefarious gun gabbing plot out of ignorance, and not with malicious intent.
And who is to determine if the names submitted to the NICS are actually mentally deficient? A doctor? A psychiatrist? Oh, no! Some State bureaucrat whose only interest is selling the Second Amendment rights of his constituents for federal money to shore up his own bloated, underfunded, and faltering State budget. Cornyn could not be serving the President’s evil purposes better if Obama were paying him.
Senator Cornyn, a Texan with an A+ NRA rating, should know better. Yes, the United States has a mental health problem, but the solution is not to restrict access to guns, dummy. The solution is to analyze the problem, locate the cause, and apply effective treatment. In case you’ve been in DC too long to remember, Senator, that’s the way we do it in Texas. And I guaran-damn-tee you the effective treatment is not gonna be repealing the Second Amendment!
I would suggest starting with an analysis of the drugs being prescribed for these patients. They often have side effects that are in many cases worse than the symptoms themselves. For example, Olanzapine, commonly prescribed for paranoia, is known to cause severe depression with suicidal thoughts in some patients. Nearly every mass shooter in recent history, including Adam Lanza, was on or had just come off psychotropic medication. What is needed is a re-education of the “chemical solution” medical profession to treat mental disorders with therapy and not with kick-the-can-down-the-road drugs that do more harm than good. But that’s not something that can be accomplished through Constitutionally legal legislation.
Another common thread of concern in these cases is violent video games. But again, although I realize it’s almost impossible for politicians to understand this, not all problems can be solved by legislating more government interference in the private sector. The solution is to educate parents of the psychological effects of these games on their children so that the market will demand their non-availability.
If Senator Cornyn is truly interested in serving the People of Texas and the United States, he should be doing things he can accomplish, like working to eliminate the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. The NICS and the 1968 Gun Control Act that spawned it are un-Constitutional since they violate the provisions of the Second Article of the Bill of Rights in the Constitution: “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
Lets get rid of the NICS, Senator, not work to augment its illegal restriction of our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
