“I have been incensed at the vitriolic assaults on the Chick Fil-A company because the CEO, Dan Cathy, made comments recently in which he affirmed his view that the Biblical view of marriage should be upheld. The Cathy family, led by Chick Fil-A founder Truett Cathy, are a wonderful Christian family who are committed to operating the company with Biblical principles and whose story is the true American success story. Starting at age 46 Truett Cathy built Chick Fil-A into a $4 billion a year enterprise with over 1600 stores. At 91, he is still active in the company, but his son Dan runs it day to day as CEO. It's a great American story that is being smeared by vicious hate speech and intolerant bigotry from the left.
“I ask you to join me in speaking out on Wednesday, August 1 "Chick Fil-A Appreciation Day.” No one is being asked to make signs, speeches, or openly demonstrate. The goal is simple: Let's affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick Fil-A on Wednesday, August 1. Too often, those on the left make corporate statements to show support for same sex marriage, abortion, or profanity, but if Christians affirm traditional values, we're considered homophobic, fundamentalists, hate-mongers, and intolerant. This effort is not being launched by the Chick Fil-A company and no one from the company or family is involved in proposing or promoting it.”
Mike Huchabee’s call to action was answered – in spades. On August 1st 2012, every Chick Fil-A restaurant in the country was inundated with customers. Lines of fervent supporters stretched for blocks, waiting for hours to show their support for American values by buying a chicken sandwich. Even after the food ran out, many would-be patrons remained in line to let their presence show the Cathy family, the liberal hate mongers, and the world that Americans don’t back down in the face of hatred and bigotry.
It’s three years later, and the Supreme Court of the United States has just declared that the principles of Christian decency upon which this country was founded and under which it has prospered for 239 years are no longer valid in America. They have opened the floodgates to culturally destructive perversion that will swamp us and our children in a disgusting deluge of sexual deviation.
On this momentous day, then, let us rededicate ourselves to those principles that induced millions of Americans to stand in long lines on that hot August afternoon three years ago to defend and reaffirm the soul and the strength of America. Those American patriots of August 1st 2012 have not gone away. They are still out there, and they are as incensed at the US Supreme Court’s scurrilous attack on our First Amendment rights as you and I are. We must mobilize them to take whatever actions are necessary to overturn this blatant assault on our Constitutional freedom.
A good place to start would be to declare August 1st CFA Day. On CFA Day, we could all visit a Chick Fil-A restaurant to show our support for the values that made America the greatest nation in the world. And if you’re not fond of chicken, just think of CFA Day as Celebrate our First Amendment Day.
