Over the years, members of his team have voluntarily joined him in his ritual. "I never asked anyone," he says. "They just all showed up one day and the next thing I know, the other team was showing up with us."
Then some (anonymous, of course) Jesus hater complained to the Bremerton School District, which has a policy that "School staff shall neither encourage [students to pray] nor discourage [them from praying]." The school district is "investigating."
Coach Kennedy is a twenty-year Marine Corps veteran, and he told KING 5 TV News at Monday's game, "It's about the freedom, and people can believe whatever they want. I'm just exercising my right. The game is over, and I just thank God for every one of these young men that are out there."
Following Monday night's game, Coach Kennedy, as he always does, walked to the fifty yard line to pray. But this time he was joined not only by his team and the opposing team, but by a crowd of parents and fans, not only from Bremerton but from the opposing team as well, all showing their support for a true American hero.
Semper Fi, Coach Kennedy.
